How UBWHY works

Editorial principles

These are the standing rules UBWHY publishes under, written down so they can be held against the work. They matter because every one of them costs something: revenue, speed, or the comfort of a positive conclusion. Expect commitments about process and evidence, not claims about how trustworthy this publication is.

Last reviewed

The reader comes before the commission

UBWHY earns money in part through affiliate relationships. That is exactly why the analysis is finished, and the verdict written, before any commercial decision is made about a product.

Where the two conflict, the reader's interest wins. A recommendation that would only survive because of the commission attached to it is not published.

Having an affiliate programme does not qualify a product for one. Most products reviewed do not automatically receive a link, and some analyses carry no link at all.

Costs and risks are not hidden

Material costs and risks appear in the analysis, in plain language, whether or not they make the product look worse. That includes costs that are not presented as costs, and risks that are unlikely but severe.

No fake urgency, no guaranteed-return language, no unrealistic earnings examples, and no cherry-picked time periods.

Conclusions follow the evidence

The verdict is written from what the evidence supports, in the order the analysis was done. Conclusions are not chosen first and justified afterwards.

When the evidence is insufficient, the analysis says so and stays marked as incomplete rather than resolving into a comfortable middle position.

Fact, claim, calculation and judgment stay separate

Four different things appear in an analysis, and they are never blurred together:

  • verified facts, with a source;
  • claims the company makes about itself, labelled as the company's;
  • calculations UBWHY performed, shown with their inputs;
  • UBWHY's judgment, identifiable as opinion.

A company statement is never presented as if it were independent verification.

Experience is disclosed, not substituted

Where UBWHY has used a product, that is disclosed and can inform the analysis. It does not replace evidence: personal experience is one person's outcome under one set of conditions, and past results are separated from what a reader should expect.

Where UBWHY has not used a product, nothing implies otherwise.

A negative verdict is a normal outcome

Products may be judged poor value, too risky or not recommended, and those analyses are published. A negative verdict is not a failed piece of work; it is evidence that the filter is real.

Commercial partners do not control conclusions

No company can buy a positive verdict, the removal of criticism, preferred placement, or approval of a page before it goes live. A partner may point out a factual error, and a demonstrated error will be corrected on the record.

Sponsored content, if it ever appears, is visibly separated from independent analysis.

Uncertainty stays visible

Where something is unknown, the page says it is unknown. Assumptions are listed so a reader can see which ones the conclusion depends on. Illustrative figures are labelled as illustrative, and no number is presented as more certain than it is.

Corrections are never quietly erased

When something is wrong, it is corrected and the correction is recorded with its date, what changed and why. Material corrections are shown on the analysis itself, not only in a log.

Substantive conclusions are not rewritten silently. Where an analysis is no longer reliable it is archived with a visible warning rather than deleted.

How corrections are recorded.
