About

About UBWHY

UBWHY explains financial products through their mechanics, costs, risks and incentives, so that a reader can decide for themselves. This page explains why the publication exists and how it is funded. It matters because who pays a publication shapes what it tells you. Expect a description of the model, including its conflicts.

Understandable. But why?

Most finance products sound understandable — until you ask where the return comes from, what it costs, what can go wrong and who benefits.

That question is the whole publication. UBWHY breaks down investment products, platforms and financial tools through their mechanics, costs, risks and incentives, and keeps asking the question until the answer is clear enough to decide on.

The standard every analysis is held to:

Understand the product. Understand the risk. Then decide.

Explanation is not recommendation

Explaining how something works and recommending that you buy it are different jobs, and UBWHY keeps them apart.

An analysis first establishes what a product does, where the money comes from, and what it costs. Only then does it reach a verdict — and that verdict names who the product may suit, under what conditions, and who should avoid it. There is no universal recommendation, because there is no universal reader.

Coverage is not endorsement. A product being analysed here says nothing about whether it is worth buying.

Who this is for

UBWHY is written for people who want to understand a product before committing money to it, and who would rather read the mechanics than a verdict handed down without one.

That means the analyses are longer than a recommendation and slower than a headline. If you want to be told what to buy, this is the wrong publication.

How UBWHY is funded

UBWHY is funded in part through affiliate relationships: where a product has been analysed and approved, a link may earn commission. That is a real conflict of interest, and pretending otherwise would be the first dishonest thing on the site.

The model is built to contain it:

  • the analysis is completed, and the verdict written, before any link is considered;
  • a recommendation must hold without the commission attached;
  • products that fail are published as failing;
  • some analyses carry no affiliate link at all.

Full disclosure policy.

First-hand use

Where UBWHY has personally used a product, that is disclosed on the analysis, and it can inform the work — a person who has used a platform knows things a brochure does not say.

It is not treated as proof. Personal experience is one outcome under one set of conditions, and it is kept separate from what a reader should expect. Where UBWHY has not used a product, nothing on the page implies otherwise.

What UBWHY is not

UBWHY is not a regulated adviser, a research institution or a certified body, and holds no professional authorisation. Nothing published here is personalised financial, legal or tax advice.

It is not a hype channel, a coupon site, a referral directory or a paid review service. It provides general educational information; verify anything that matters to your own decision, and decide whether a product fits your circumstances.
